Summerfield Farms, a local working farm renowned for its grass-fed beef, organic produce, and beautiful setting, returns for the second year as a sponsor for the Kirkwood 5K and BackPack Beginnings. Summerfield Farms has established a successful relationship with BackPack Beginnings because of both companies passion for nutrition and quality of life. The farm “strives to educate the community about where their food comes from and the importance of nutrient-dense, clean food” according to Lauren Stigall, the marketing coordinator for Summerfield Farms. They choose to support BackPack Beginnings because “BackPack Beginnings takes the time to source nutritious foods for their backpacks” in hopes of getting healthy meals to kids in need.
Beyond the already delicious and wide array of produce, eggs and beef that was available at the farm, this year they have “revamped the garden and added a tremendous amount of crops.” Craving some juicy summer watermelon? They have it. Delicious tomatoes, cantaloupe, microgreens or squash? Also all available now at Summerfield Farms. And this fall they are adding a pumpkin patch, so you can get your delicious fall produce and a pumpkin as well as a melt in your mouth steak all in one stop!
This year several Summerfield Farms team members will be running the Kirkwood 5k, thanks to the good word spread from last year’s participants who “had a blast at the race” according to Stigall. So once you work up an appetite and a sweat alongside the Summerfield Farms crew, hop in the car and head out to Summerfield Farms to learn about the importance of a balanced, nutrient-dense diet. Their store is open 6 days a week, and farm tours will begin this fall. Check it all out at www.summerfieldfarms.com.
