It always strikes me as interesting when paths cross in life. You usually don’t even realize it until much later. Ten years ago, I lived in Richmond, VA. As it turns out, every day, on my way to work at my office perched right past downtown and on the James River, I rather unknowingly drove past the headquarters of a future loyal sponsor of a race that was not yet born that I would ultimately be a part of.
Davenport & Company, one of the oldest independent financial firms in America, was established in 1893. In February 2009, the company opened a branch, one of only 15, in Greensboro. I asked Cecelia Anderson, an Investment Executive with Davenport, what sets Davenport apart from other financial firms.
“As an employee-owned firm, we don’t answer to a distant financial conglomerate or another institution’s agenda. We work for one group of people every day – our clients. And we manage their money as if it were our own. Our 100% employee ownership and independence allow us to work one-on-one with clients to focus on their goals.”
K5K is fortunate to have had Davenport & Company as a partner ever since the inception of our local race.
“Our office has been a sponsor of the K5K since 2010, when Backpack Beginnings was first chosen to receive the proceeds from the race. We are proud to partner with Backpack Beginnings because of its dedication to caring for children in our very own community.”
Davenport not only supports the K5K but is a firm believer in participating in our fun, local race. When I asked Ms. Anderson if anyone from the Greensboro office would participate in the race this year, she answered , “We always have a strong turnout from our office, and this year, in honor of it being Backpack Beginnings 5th anniversary of being the recipient of the K5K, we hope to have our highest number of participants yet!”
The K5K is proud to have both the support and the enthusiasm from Davenport & Company.
