A good friend of mine recently had a birthday. When I asked her where she wanted to go for a birthday dessert, she immediately responded, “Maxie B’s”.

I will admit that I hadn’t been to Maxie B’s in a while. You see, I remember when Maxie B’s used to be a yogurt store. In high school, I would sneak out to lunch there and get a big cup of tasty yogurt. I met friends there. I was there all the time.

When I moved back to Greensboro, sitting down for dessert (much less a meal for that matter) became a luxury that was unfortunately not often granted. This is the only reason I have not frequented Maxie B’s recently. As I walked in, I was impressed with their latest expansion. Couches line the warm walls, setting up separate seating areas. A cozy living room with a variety of delectable, mouth-watering desserts, just waiting for you to indulge in.

Everyone has his or her favorite dessert at Maxie B’s. My personal choice is the pumpkin chocolate chip cupcake. I have never had a strong sweet tooth; however, chocolate chips are kind of my weakness. And when you add them to this sweet (but not overly sweet) pumpkin cupcake with a flawless cream cheese icing? I have to restrain myself from seconds…or thirds.

Now, get ready for the delicious part. On race day, August 23, 2014, Maxie B’s has generously offered a 10% give back of all sales that day. How could anyone resist a deal like that? A sweet and savory dessert at an affordable price in a cozy living room, with 10% of the cost going right back to BackPack Beginnings.

Race you there?
