About BackPack Beginnings

BackPack Beginnings is a local, 100% volunteer non-profit organization founded to deliver child-centric services to feed, comfort and clothe children in need. Started as a feeding program in one title 1 school feeding 50 children in 2010, they are now a multi-program organization serving over 6,000 local children a year.  They envision a community of healthy and well-nurtured children. BackPack Beginnings operates 2 backpack programs – a Food BackPack Program and a Comfort BackPack Program – to fulfill their motto of serving children in need one BackPack at a time. Their Food BackPack Program provides children at risk of hunger with backpacks full of nutritious, child-friendly foods to take home over the weekends during the school year.  Their Comfort BackPack Program provides backpacks full of comfort items such as hygiene products, school supplies, books, toys, stuffed animals, blankets, coloring books and crayons, and other items to abused, foster, homeless and refugee children.  In addition to these backpack programs, they also operate a free clothing pantry and 18 food pantries in local middle and high schools.  To learn more please visit www.backpackbeginnings.org
