The K5K is a family focused run/walk/push designed to get the entire community involved! Our flat course is nestled in the cozy, neighborhood streets of Kirkwood (map) and promises to be a FAST, easy, and refreshing 5K. All proceeds for the 2012 K5K will benefit BackPack Beginnings.
BackPack Beginnings is a local non-profit organization founded to meet the most basic needs of underprivileged children in Guilford County through the use of backpacks. Started as a feeding program in one title 1 school feeding 50 children in 2010, they are now a multi-program organization that soon will be serving over 1,500 children a year. They believe that every child, whether suffering from hunger or abuse, deserves the support that they are ready and willing to give. BackPack Beginnings operates 2 programs – a Food BackPack Program and a Comfort BackPack Program – to fulfill their motto of serving children in our community one BackPack at a time. Their Food BackPack Program provides school-aged children at risk of hunger with backpacks full of nutritious, child-friendly foods to take home over the weekends during the school year. Their Comfort BackPack Program provides backpacks full of comfort items such as hygiene products, school supplies, books, toys, stuffed animals, blankets, coloring books and crayons, and other items to abused, foster, homeless and refugee children.
